What we supply
Potassium chloride is the workhorse potassium salt: the cheapest source of potassium per unit by a wide margin, which is why it accounts for the great majority of the world’s potash consumption. It is recovered from natural potash deposits — by conventional underground mining of sylvinite, by solution mining, or by solar evaporation of potash-rich brines — and beneficiated, rather than synthesised. India has no potash mining of any commercial scale, so essentially all of it is imported. That single fact drives the price: Indian potassium chloride tracks international potash contracts, the rupee and freight, not local production cost.
It is sold in two visual forms that confuse first-time buyers. The pink-to-red material takes its colour from iron oxide left from the ore; the white material has been further purified. Colour on its own says nothing about potassium content — that is set by the grade, and the grades we carry are in the table above. Potassium chloride is very soluble in water and the solution is neutral, so it raises salinity without shifting pH, which is exactly what drilling and brine users want from it. Fertiliser-grade MOP is supplied against the Fertiliser (Control) Order specification of 60 per cent water-soluble K2O minimum — roughly 95 per cent potassium chloride — with sodium as NaCl at 3.5 per cent maximum. Higher-purity technical KCl is a separate grade, so tell us which of the two you need.
Grades & packing
These are the formats we most commonly supply. Other grades, packing sizes and pack marking are available — ask at the enquiry stage.
| Product | Formula | Grade | HSN | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Potassium Chloride | KCl | MOP 60% K₂O min (FCO) / technical | 3104 20 00 | 50 kg bag · 1 MT jumbo |
No tested values are published here. The certificate of analysis for the batch actually loaded travels with the despatch documents, and a representative COA and the safety data sheet go out before any commercial discussion.
Applications
Muriate of potash, the primary K source in straight and blended fertiliser, where supply is regulated (see below).
KCl brine and polymer muds, where the potassium ion suppresses swelling in reactive shale.
Raw material for potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate and other potassium salts.
Regenerant for ion-exchange softeners where sodium has to be avoided.
Salt substitute, electrolyte and nutrient source, against a food or pharmacopoeial grade.
Flux in glass and ceramic bodies, and a component of molten-salt heat-treatment baths.
Handling & storage
Worth reading before you order rather than after. If any of this is a problem at your site, tell us — it usually changes what we would quote.
Price
Potassium chloride is an imported commodity, so the price is set by international potash contracts, the exchange rate, port and inland freight — not by any local cost of manufacture. Grade, colour, granulation and whether you take 50 kg bags or one tonne jumbos set the rest. We quote per MT in writing, landed, with a stated validity.
Questions
Yes. Muriate of potash, or MOP, is the fertiliser trade name for potassium chloride. The chemical is the same; fertiliser-grade material is simply made and documented to a fertiliser specification.
MOP is potassium chloride and SOP is potassium sulphate. MOP is much cheaper per unit of potassium but adds chloride. Tobacco and starch potato are genuinely chloride-sensitive, as are many berries, citrus, stone fruit, mango and avocado. Grapevine, table and seed potato and tomato tolerate chloride if it is applied before growth starts, and banana, coconut and oil palm are chloride-tolerant and gain nothing from SOP. Where the crop tolerates chloride the choice is commercial and MOP usually wins on cost; where it does not, the agronomy decides it regardless of price.
The pink-to-red colour is iron oxide carried over from the sylvinite ore. White material has been purified further. Colour by itself does not tell you the potassium content — the grade does.

No — Velora is a bulk supplier and trader, not a manufacturer. India has no potash mining of commercial scale, so potassium chloride is imported material sourced through established channels.
The HSN code for potassium chloride (MOP) is 3104 20 00 (Potassium chloride, potassic fertiliser). Chapter 31 Note 4 puts potassium chloride here “whether or not pure”, so pharmaceutical and food-grade material is classified with fertiliser grade. Material in packages of 10 kg gross or less falls under 3105 10 00 instead. Some Indian importers declare industrial KCl under 2827 39 90, which is difficult to reconcile with the chapter note, and the GST rate differs by end use even where the code does not. Confirm the heading and the rate with your own tax adviser. Source: the Indian customs tariff as listed in the GST HSN directory, checked September 2026.
Documentation
Not classified as a dangerous good for transport, so no TREM card is required. The safety data sheet still applies.
| Document | What it covers for potassium chloride | When you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Product specification | Download the product specification sheet for potassium chloride (PDF) — CAS, formula, grade supplied against, packing, HSN and transport classification. Carries no test results and certifies no batch. | Download now |
| Safety data sheet (MSDS/SDS) | Download the 16-section GHS safety data sheet (PDF) — compiled from PubChem, the ECHA CLP inventory and ILO safety cards. The producer’s sheet for the lot supplied governs and is issued with the consignment. | Download now |
| Representative COA | A producer’s representative certificate of analysis for the grade you specify, obtained at enquiry stage so your QC can assess potassium chloride against your own specification | Before commercial terms |
| Batch COA | Tested values for the batch actually loaded on your vehicle | With despatch documents |
| Technical data sheet | Handling, storage and materials-of-construction guidance | On request |
We do not publish blank certificates to download. A certificate of analysis belongs to a batch, so a generic one tells you nothing about the material on your vehicle — and the safety data sheet is the producer’s document for the grade actually quoted. Ask and both are emailed, usually the same working day.
