Dyes, Pigments & Intermediates
Reactive dyes, the intermediates they are built from, and the organic and inorganic pigments that colour ink, paint and plastic. This is Gujarat’s own industry — Vatva, Naroda, Odhav, Ankleshwar and Vapi make a large share of the world’s reactive dye and dye intermediate supply — and it is bought on shade, strength and fastness rather than on a single assay figure. Send the shade card or the C.I. number with your enquiry; a dye quoted on name alone is how the wrong drum arrives.
Reactive dyes, dye intermediates and organic and inorganic pigments for the dye houses, ink makers, masterbatch plants and coating formulators that Gujarat is built on — sold by the drum and the bag against a shade and a strength.
Grades and packing shown are the formats we most commonly supply — they are commodity descriptors, not tested values. Other concentrations and packing sizes are available on request. Minimum order quantities apply to every line; we supply bulk only.
What we will not quote
We do not supply benzidine, benzidine salts, or any benzidine-based dye — Congo Red / Direct Red 28, Direct Black 38, Direct Blue 6 and the rest of that family. Their manufacture, processing, storage, consumption and sale are prohibited in India under section 6(2)(d) of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. We also do not supply 2-naphthylamine, 4-aminobiphenyl or 4-nitrodiphenyl, which are prohibited substances for factory use.
Tobias acid is not 2-naphthylamine. Tobias acid is 2-naphthylamine-1-sulphonic acid, CAS 81-16-3 — a distinct, freely traded intermediate with its own ITC-HS line, 2921 45 26. Overseas compliance teams routinely confuse the two; we will put the distinction in writing for your file.
We do not list lead chromate or cadmium pigments. Lead chromates cannot be used in household or decorative paint in India, where total lead is capped at 90 ppm by G.S.R. 409(E) of 2016, and cadmium pigments are restricted in most of our export markets. If your end use genuinely requires either, we will say so and point you elsewhere rather than quote them.
We make no blanket compliance claim on this page, because none would be honest: India prohibits a list of named dyes rather than a list of amines, and the restriction that matters to you depends on your end use and your market. Tell us the market and the standard you sell against — buyer’s restricted substance list, GOTS, ZDHC MRSL, EU REACH Annex XVII — and we will confirm in writing, per shade, before the order is accepted.
Two things worth knowing
Pigment Yellow 12, 13, 14 and 83 and the pyrazolone oranges are built on 3,3’-dichlorobenzidine. They are freely traded in India and are outside the EU azo restriction, which covers soluble dyes rather than insoluble pigments. But they decompose above about 200 °C and can release 3,3’-dichlorobenzidine, so they are the wrong choice for high-temperature plastics processing. Tell us your processing temperature and we will steer you to a pigment that survives it.
Particular combinations of Pigment Black 7 with Pigment Orange 13 or Pigment Orange 34 have been shown to release 3,3’-dichlorobenzidine under textile printing conditions, even though neither pigment does so alone. If you print textiles and use that combination, raise it with us and with your own lab before you standardise on it.
Reactive dye classes
Reactive dyes are bought by reactive system as much as by shade. The class decides the dyeing temperature, the fixation and the price per kilo of fixed colour.
| Class | Where it is used | Working range |
|---|---|---|
| Dichlorotriazine — cold brand (M, MX, X) | Cold pad-batch and room-temperature exhaust; printing. High reactivity, shorter storage life. | About 30–60 °C |
| Monochlorotriazine — hot brand (P, H) | Exhaust dyeing where prolonged heat assists fixation; hot pad-batch. | About 70–90 °C |
| Bis-monochlorotriazine — high exhaust (HE, KE) | High-exhaust, high-fixation deep shades; economical on dark grounds. | About 80 °C |
| Vinyl sulphone (KN, RGB) | Continuous pad-steam, exhaust and two-phase printing. Reactivity rises with temperature and pH. | About 60–70 °C |
| Bifunctional, MCT + VS (ME, B, SP) | The general-purpose workhorse — wide compatibility and high fixation across a temperature window. | Exhaust range |
Working ranges are the standard textbook bands for each class, not a specification. Dye to the producer’s own application instructions for the shade you buy.

Questions
Both, and we quote against the C.I. number wherever one exists — shade names are not unique. “Reactive Red 3BS”, for instance, is sold by different producers as both Reactive Red 195 and Reactive Red 239. Send the C.I. number, the strength you buy at and your shade card, and the offer will name all three back to you.
Commercial strengths vary by shade — commonly 100%, 125%, 133%, 140% or 150%. The strength is part of the price, so a per-kilo comparison between two offers means nothing until both are on the same basis. We state the strength on every offer.
No. Benzidine, benzidine salts and benzidine-based dyes are prohibited in India under section 6(2)(d) of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and we do not quote them. We also do not supply 2-naphthylamine, 4-aminobiphenyl or 4-nitrodiphenyl. Tell us the restricted substance list you sell against and we confirm compliance per shade, in writing, before the order is accepted.
No. Velora is a bulk supplier and trader. Dyes, intermediates and pigments are sourced from qualified Indian producers, most of them in Gujarat, and the producer’s own certificate of analysis travels with the consignment.
Both move with the Chinese import price and with anti-dumping positions that change on review, so a published figure would be out of date within the week. Send the quantity, the assay you need and the delivery point and you get a written offer, usually the same working day.
