Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate — the salt most people know as Epsom salt — carries both magnesium and sulphur in a water-soluble form, which is why fertiliser blenders and micronutrient formulators buy it in tonnage.

Be clear about which hydrate you want: heptahydrate carries seven waters of crystallisation and the monohydrate only one, so the monohydrate is roughly 17–18% magnesium against roughly 9.8% for heptahydrate. A tonne of one is not a tonne of the other, and the two cannot be compared on headline price.

Chemically yes — Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate heptahydrate. The difference is grade and certification: pharmaceutical and food grades are made and tested to their own standards, and we supply technical and agricultural material.

Magnesium sulphate is a specified fertiliser under the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985, so both sides of the trade carry obligations. We sell on a technical and industrial basis against a written specification; if the material is being bought for fertiliser use, say so at the enquiry stage so the grade, documentation and dealer registration position for your state are settled before the order is placed. We do not sell FCO-labelled product for direct sale to farmers.
The HSN code for magnesium sulphate is 2833 21 00 (Sulphates of magnesium). This is the line for chemically manufactured magnesium sulphate. Natural magnesium sulphates — kieserite and epsomite — are classified separately under 2530 20 00, which attracts a different GST rate, so the correct code depends on how the material was produced, not on the hydrate.
