What we supply

Oxalic Acid in bulk, against a written specification.

Oxalic acid is one of the strongest of the common carboxylic acids — its first dissociation constant, pKa about 1.25, puts it far ahead of acetic or formic acid — but its industrial value comes less from acid strength than from its ability to grab metal ions. It chelates iron, which is why it lifts rust and iron stains off stone, timber and fabric where a mineral acid would simply etch the surface and leave the stain behind. The same chemistry is what makes it a marble and terrazzo polishing agent — it reacts with the calcium at the surface and leaves a hard, light-reflecting skin.

It is traded as the dihydrate, a white crystal or powder, and that is what the grade in the table above refers to. Two things about it are routinely underestimated. It is genuinely poisonous — not an irritant that people call poisonous, but a substance whose sale in Gujarat is licensed under the Poisons Act — and it will happily dissolve calcium out of things you did not intend, which is why it should never be left standing on polished stone or on galvanised and aluminium surfaces.

Grades & packing

What goes out, and how it is packed.

These are the formats we most commonly supply. Other grades, packing sizes and pack marking are available — ask at the enquiry stage.

Applications

Where oxalic acid earns its place.

Marble & stone polishing

Crystallising and polishing marble, terrazzo and granite — one of the largest outlets in the Indian market.

Rust & stain removal

Removing iron stains from stone, timber, fabric and radiator and boiler systems.

Textile processing

Bleaching assistant, stripping agent and a mordant in dyeing and printing.

Metal treatment

Pickling, anodising electrolytes and the phosphating of steel.

Leather

Bleaching and neutralising in tanneries.

Wood restoration

Lightening and removing water and iron marks from timber.

Handling & storage

What to get right before the load arrives.

Site notes

  • Oxalic acid is toxic. The EU harmonised classification is Acute Tox. 4 by the oral and dermal routes — harmful if swallowed and harmful in contact with skin. It carries no harmonised eye or skin corrosion entry, though around a third of notifiers self-classify it as causing serious eye damage, and the ILO safety card goes further again with H314, causes severe skin burns and eye damage, plus respiratory irritation. Work to the more protective position: chemical goggles and face protection, impervious gloves, covered skin, and no eating, drinking or smoking where it is handled.
  • Swallowing it, even in small quantity, causes severe internal injury and can lead to kidney failure through calcium oxalate crystals. Never decant it into an unlabelled container, and never into a drink bottle.
  • On ingestion, rinse the mouth, do not induce vomiting, and get immediate medical attention. On skin or eye contact, rinse with running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
  • Store in a dry, covered store away from alkalis, oxidising agents, silver and mercury salts. Keep the dust down — use extraction at tipping and bag-splitting points.
  • It attacks concrete, marble, galvanised steel and aluminium. Bund and line floors where solutions are made up, and do not let spillage sit on stone or on a galvanised gutter.
  • Solid oxalic acid dihydrate is commonly consigned as UN 3261, corrosive solid, acidic, organic, n.o.s., Class 8, packing group III — though because it does not meet the UN Model Regulations skin-corrosion criteria on the test data some producers hold, a number of suppliers declare it unregulated for transport. Work from the safety data sheet and the consignor's declaration for the lot you receive rather than assuming either position.
  • Oxalic acid is a Schedule I substance, with no concentration threshold, under the Gujarat Poisons (Regulation and Control of Sale and Use of Acid) Rules, 2014. The obligation runs on the seller as much as the buyer: selling it or holding it for sale requires a licence in Form A, and every sale has to be recorded against the purchaser’s government photo identity in the prescribed registers, with stocks declared to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Velora holds the Form A licence required to supply oxalic acid, and our licence particulars are provided with the quotation. We quote only where the licence position can be documented at both ends, and we do not sell for personal or unrecorded use.

Price

What actually moves the oxalic acid price.

A large share of the oxalic acid in the Indian market is imported, so the price tracks international offers, the exchange rate and freight more closely than any local manufacturing cost. Bag versus jumbo and delivery point set the rest. We quote per kg or per MT in writing, landed, with a stated validity.

Questions

Oxalic Acid — what buyers ask us.

What is oxalic acid used for in marble polishing?

It reacts with the calcium carbonate at the surface of the stone to form a hard, close-grained calcium oxalate layer that takes and holds a shine. It also lifts iron staining out of the stone at the same time, which is why polishers reach for it rather than for a mineral acid.

Is oxalic acid dangerous?

Yes. It is toxic if swallowed or absorbed through skin and can cause kidney injury, and its sale in Gujarat is licensed under the Poisons Act. It is a legitimate industrial chemical handled safely every day, but it is not a household product and should not be treated as one.

Do you supply small quantities of oxalic acid?

Our packing starts at 25 kg bags and we supply documented industrial buyers, because sale is licensed and every transaction has to be recorded against the buyer's identity. We do not sell it for personal or unrecorded use.

What is the oxalic acid price per kg?

Oxalic acid in India is largely imported, so the price follows international offers, the exchange rate and freight. We quote per kg or per MT, landed, with a stated validity.

Where can I buy oxalic acid in India?

From a licensed supplier, against documented industrial use. Sale in Gujarat is licensed under the Poisons Act and every transaction is recorded against the buyer's photo identity, so it is not an over-the-counter purchase.

What is the HSN code for oxalic acid?

The HSN code for oxalic acid is 2917 11 10 (Oxalic acid). Dihydrate and anhydrous share the code; there is no Indian sub-split below this line. Source: the Indian customs tariff as listed in the GST HSN directory, checked September 2026.

Documentation

Oxalic Acid — MSDS, COA and what travels with the load.

Shipped as a dangerous good under UN 3261. A TREM card travels on the vehicle.

Safety data sheet (MSDS/SDS)Download the 16-section GHS safety data sheet (PDF) — compiled from PubChem, the ECHA CLP inventory and ILO safety cards. The producer’s sheet for the lot supplied governs and is issued with the consignment.Download now
Representative COAA producer’s representative certificate of analysis for the grade you specify, obtained at enquiry stage so your QC can assess oxalic acid against your own specificationBefore commercial terms

We do not publish blank certificates to download. A certificate of analysis belongs to a batch, so a generic one tells you nothing about the material on your vehicle — and the safety data sheet is the producer’s document for the grade actually quoted. Ask and both are emailed, usually the same working day.
