Glacial acetic acid is the concentrated form — 99.8% and above — as opposed to the dilute acetic acid sold for food use. It is a solvent, an acidulant and a reaction feedstock, and it turns up across textile printing, pharmaceutical intermediates, rubber coagulation and acetate manufacture.

Glacial acetic acid is made from methanol and carbon monoxide, so it tracks methanol and, through it, natural gas. India imports a substantial share, which adds currency and sea-freight exposure. It has frozen, not spoiled. Glacial acetic acid solidifies around 16–17°C. Warm the drum gently and evenly back to a liquid and the material is unaffected. Avoid localised heating that could over-pressurise the drum.
Strength. Glacial is 99.8% and above; food and household acetic acid is heavily diluted. They are the same acid but not interchangeable in handling — glacial is corrosive and flammable.
