What we supply

Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate in bulk, against a written specification.

SLES is the foaming surfactant in most shampoos, body washes and dishwash liquids made in India. It is milder than SLS, which is why personal care moved to it, and it foams and thickens readily with salt, which is why formulators like it.

Velora supplies both the 70% paste and the 28% liquid. The choice is practical: 70% is cheaper per unit of active and better for shipping, but it is a stiff paste that needs warming and good agitation to dilute. 28% pumps straight into the batch.

Applications

Where sodium lauryl ether sulphate earns its place.

Shampoo & body wash

Primary foaming surfactant in personal care.

Dishwash liquid

Foam and detergency in hand dishwash.

Liquid detergent

Surfactant in laundry liquids.

Toothpaste

Occasionally, in specific formulations — but the usual toothpaste foaming surfactant is SLS, not SLES.

Industrial cleaners

Foaming and wetting in cleaning formulations.

Textile auxiliaries

Wetting and scouring.

Handling & storage

What to get right before the load arrives.

Site notes

  • SLES 70 is a thick paste, not a liquid, and it thickens further in cold weather. It needs warming and proper agitation to dissolve. Plants that try to dilute it cold end up with lumps that never fully disperse.
  • Warm the whole drum evenly to 40–55 °C and no higher than about 60 °C, and do not hold it hot for long. SLES hydrolyses back towards fatty alcohol and sodium sulphate with heat, discolouring and developing odour as it goes. Drum and immersion heaters create local hot spots well above the bulk temperature — that is how drums get cooked.
  • Diluting 70% to a working strength passes through a viscosity peak — the mixture gets dramatically thicker part-way before thinning again. Add water gradually with good agitation and do not panic when it stiffens.
  • Store away from extremes of heat and cold. Not a dangerous good for transport in the usual commercial forms.

Price

What actually moves the sodium lauryl ether sulphate price.

SLES is made from fatty alcohol plus ethylene oxide, so it tracks lauryl alcohol — largely palm-kernel driven and on its own agricultural cycle — while the ethoxylate portion and the synthetic share of alcohol supply keep a real petrochemical link. Buy on active content: 70% costs more per drum than 28% but far less per unit of actual surfactant, and you are not paying freight on water. Unless you have no way to warm and agitate, 70% is usually the better economics.

Questions

Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate — what buyers ask us.

SLES 70 or SLES 28?

70% is cheaper per unit of active and cheaper to freight, but it is a paste that needs warming and good agitation. 28% pumps straight into the batch with no preparation. If you have a heated make-up tank with decent agitation, take 70%. If you do not, 28% will cause you far less trouble.

What is the difference between SLES and SLS?

SLES is ethoxylated, which makes it milder on skin and easier to thicken with salt — that is why personal care uses it. SLS foams more aggressively and is harsher, so it stays in toothpaste, detergent powder and industrial cleaning.

Why did my batch go lumpy?

Almost always cold dilution of the 70% paste without enough agitation. Warm the drum evenly to 40–55 °C — not above about 60 °C, or you start hydrolysing and discolouring the product — then add water gradually and keep good agitation through the viscosity peak part-way through dilution.

What is the SLES price per kg?

SLES is quoted per kg or per tonne, landed. Always compare on active content — SLES 70 and SLES 28 are different products, and a lower per-kg price for 28% often costs more per kg of active.

Do you supply SLES liquid as well as paste?

Yes — SLES 28% is the pumpable liquid form; SLES 70% is the concentrated paste. Both are supplied in 230 kg drums and IBCs.

What is the HSN code for SLES (sodium lauryl ether sulphate)?

The HSN code for SLES (sodium lauryl ether sulphate) is 3402 39 00 (Anionic surface-active agents — other). This applies to SLES as a raw material not put up for retail sale; a finished washing preparation is classified differently.
